What This Is
This section contains a number of subheadings where I can archive and organize the various things I’m studying/working on from a month-to-month basis. It’s essentially a long list of tersely formatted status updates that I collect and maintain along with some commentary.
Fundamentals of Software Architecture: An Engineering Approach - Mark Richards. (9781492043454) (in p.)
Influence: The Psychology of Persuasion, Revised Edition - Robert B. Cialdini PhD. (9780061241895) (in p.)
I Am A Cat - Natsume Sōseki. (9780804832656) (in p.)
Eragon - Christopher Paolini. (9780375826696) (fin)
Bartosz Ciechanowski - Mechanical Watch - an extraordinary interactive breakdown of the design and function of automatic (i.e. mechanical) watch movements.
Arnon Shimoni - You should separate your billing from entitlements - Ever work on a billing system before? What about a piece of software in which users’ access to features varies depending on their capabilities? Demons lurk in the complexities where these problems collide.
Douglas Adams - Please don’t let anyone Americanise it! - I am an enormous fan of Douglas Adams and the H2G2 series. This letter from Adams to an American publishing company regarding the americanization of an H2G2 comic adaptation is very entertaining.
Audobon Society - How Does a Cowbird Learn to be a Cowbird? - It’s no secret I love birds, brood parasites and all. So, how does a cowbird learn to be a cowbird?
a.k.a. Pugs - My Summer at Bell Labs (part 1) - Tom Lyon’s account of his 1977 internship at Bell Labs under the UNIX development group. His work was later cited in a paper by Steve Johnson & Dennis Ritchie on C program portability.
Kalzumeus - Japan’s Hometown Tax - An interesting account of the “Hometown tax”, a small corner of the Japanese tax system that creates a terribly interesting incentive structure.
Squeak Records: a small, independent record label/media company based in St. Petersburg, Florida.
Squeak has officially launched, both legally with the formation of an LLC and digitally with the advent of our online storefront.
Big Huge Giant’s first EP should be completed sometime within the next 8 weeks to 3 months. In the meantime, you can catch some recordings of their recent live set on the Squeak YouTube channel.

I recently started collaborating with the USF Whitehatters security club as a mentor and coach.
For the past month or so, I’ve been heavily involved with the Tampa Devs meetup group. I’ll be giving a talk on application security at the August meetup.
