What This Is
This section contains a number of subheadings where I can archive and organize the various things I’m studying/working on from a month-to-month basis. It’s essentially a long list of tersely formatted status updates that I collect and maintain along with some commentary.

Bartosz Ciechanowski - Mechanical Watch - an extraordinary interactive breakdown of the design and function of automatic (i.e. mechanical) watch movements.

Douglas Adams - Please don’t let anyone Americanise it! - I am an enormous fan of Douglas Adams and the H2G2 series. This letter from Adams to an American publishing company regarding the americanization of an H2G2 comic adaptation is very entertaining.

a.k.a. Pugs - My Summer at Bell Labs (part 1) - Tom Lyon’s account of his 1977 internship at Bell Labs under the UNIX development group. His work was later cited in a paper by Steve Johnson & Dennis Ritchie on C program portability.
Neil Madden - Psychic Signatures in Java - Excellent writeup of CVE-2022-21449.
Kalzumeus - Japan’s Hometown Tax - An interesting account of the “Hometown tax”, a small corner of the Japanese tax system that creates a terribly interesting incentive structure.
